Experience
I’ve been working professionally with words for 30 years, first as a computer programmer who documented the systems I helped develop, then as a technical writer. Since I’ve always loved reading suspense thrillers, science fiction, and mysteries, I thought I’d try combining the “word nerd” in me with the fiction fan and edit a novel.
My first fiction editing project was several years ago when I worked with a former colleague on a science fiction novel he had written. I thoroughly enjoyed the project, and the author self-published the novel on Amazon.
Since then, I’ve done a thorough edit on several other novels and a simple edit on one. Interestingly, some of those novels were genres I don’t typically read: Western action-adventure and young adult. But I found the stories so engaging that I enjoyed editing those as well. This was when I was employed part-time by a non-profit publisher that closed its doors a few years ago.
My Portfolio page shows the novels I’ve edited.
I’ve been an avid reader since I was little and became more passionate about effective writing and editing as I got older.
Credentials
I’ve completed several courses in fiction editing that covered developmental editing and copyediting.
I’m familiar with the Chicago Manual of Style, which is the standard for fiction.
